HALLANDALE, Fla. -- Front-running Lil's Lad and temperamental Coronado's Quest will try to take another step toward the Kentucky Derby today in the Fountain of Youth at Gulfstream Park.
So will Halory Hunter, a colt co-owned by Rick Pitino, coach of the Boston Celtics.
The only other 3-year-old in the four-horse field for the 1 1/16 -mile race is Cape Town, also a Derby hopeful.
Lil's Lad will open the 6-5 favorite in the $200,000 race. He and Coronado's Quest, the 8-5 second choice, are rated behind just one horse -- unbeaten Favorite Trick, 1997 Horse of the Year -- in the latest ranking of Derby contenders. …
